How to Use Technology to Connect

Social distancing is changing the way we interact. It certainly has had an impact on interactions at senior living communities.

Here at Laurel Circle, we love to meet prospective residents who are choosing a senior living community and answer all their questions in person while showing them around our friendly community.

But even when we’re unable to chat face to face, we still have many options to answer your questions and tools to help you find the perfect home. Technology is a huge help here.

Seniors and technology

Seniors as a group are more digitally connected than ever, and getting seniors and technology connected protects their health and well-being; it also improves their quality of life. Now is the perfect time for all of us to learn new technologies that help us keep in touch with family and friends, as well as choosing a senior living community.

One app we use frequently is FaceTime to have video meetings. Many seniors who own iPhones and iPads are unaware that there is a built-in application that allows them to connect with loved ones with the click of a button.

This app allows you to make a video call. You’ll be able to see and hear the person you call.

How to use FaceTime

FaceTime is easy to use. First of all, find the FaceTime app icon on your Home Screen.

 

 

 

When we, or someone else, calls you, you simply have to tap “Accept” to answer the call.

To make a FaceTime call yourself, you need the person’s phone number or email address.

There are a few ways to make a FaceTime call:

  • Find the specific person in your Contacts. Then tap the FaceTime icon.
  • You can also start a FaceTime video call from your iPhone during a phone call. Tap the FaceTime icon in the Phone app to switch to FaceTime.

Choosing a senior living community

Even when you’re not able to physically tour a retirement home, our website also has many tools that can help you understand all the options available and what might be just right for you.

We have a wide variety of floor plan styles and sizes — from studios and apartments to large stand-alone villas with attached garages — to customize to your lifestyle. Simply visit the Floor Plans page on our website. There you can click on any of the floor plans and the layout of each apartment will open on-screen. You can also take a “virtual tour” of one of our apartments. Visit the Video Gallery page and select the “Residences at Laurel Circle” video to be shown around one of our spacious apartments.
