For seniors, mobility is often the key to independence. The healthcare professionals at Laurel Circle, a life plan community in Bridgewater, work with their residents to draw a direct link between exercise and feeling well. Having best-in-class facilities and trainers helps make that connection happen. The National Institute for Fitness and Sports Fitness Center Management (NIFS) manages the fitness/health programs at Laurel Circle. NIFS is a blue-ribbon program specializing in wellness through fitness and is designed to make a difference.

“We really advocate for our residents to keep agile,” says Miles Pruznick, Laurel Circle Fitness Manager. “Our fitness programs emphasize stretch, posture, and better balance. Classes and personalized programs designed for seniors include yoga, tai chi, Pilates and strength training, chair volleyball, yoga, and daily guided meditations. For more ways to stay fit and have fun, residents can hop on our bus and head to the Jewish Community Center nearby; Laurel Circle residents receive a free JCC membership.” Pruznick adds that Laurel Circle also has walking clubs, trails, bocce ball, Wii® sports, and many other activities geared to various fitness levels.

The fitness/wellness training goal is for residents to feel motivated and consistent in their daily physical activity. Laurel Circle resident Penny Zimmerman says the philosophy has an impact, “I appreciate the fitness programs at Laurel Circle. Miles is very patient with us all, and he is perfect! I know it’s doing me good because, if nothing else, it’s getting me up and out of bed in the morning. Most of us know it is much easier to stick to a wellness routine when you have friends who count on you joining.”

There’s more to feeling fit than exercise alone, and that’s why Laurel Circle takes a holistic approach that encompasses eight dimensions of wellness. The dietitian works with the culinary team to provide nutritious, balanced meals that meet individual needs. There are programs and classes to help energize your body, engage your mind and nurture your spirit to help you thrive regardless of your fitness journey. It is easy for residents to sign up for classes offered daily, weekly, and additional special classes on Touchtown streaming on their TVs.

There is no need to travel to multiple therapy facilities; at Laurel Circle, the team can also help with recovery through physical therapy and training for pre-or post-surgery and stroke recovery. The goal is to offer comprehensive wellness care under one roof.
